Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The parish council has approved a fundraising effort to install two new icons, Christ Pantokrator in the dome and the Platytera in the apse. These two holy icons remind us of the very heart of our faith: Christ, the Lord and Creator of all, and His Most Pure Mother, through whom the Word became flesh for our salvation.
Christ Pantokrator
Meaning “Ruler of All” - He will watch over us from the church dome.
The Platytera
Meaning “More Spacious than the Heavens” - she will watch over us from above and behind the holy altar.
The holy icons teach us, proclaim the Gospel to us, and draw our hearts toward the heavenly reality into which we enter whenever we gather for the Divine Services and will not only bless us, but also our children and generations of Orthodox Christians who will come after us.
The Work and the Goal
Master Iconographer John Lickwar will undertake this work once the necessary funds have been raised.
The total anticipated cost of the project is $43,000, which includes supplies, installation, labor, as well as food and lodging for the week he will be with us.
